Who is the Hayhurst Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET)?
We care about the well-being of our families and love Portland. To promote preparedness, our volunteer** Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) generally meets up once per month to plan how we can help educate the local community via outreach, while furthering our knowledge and skill-set within our team.
We hold monthly NET Team Planning/Training meetings welcoming non-NET certified attendees to learn more and help out. A big thank you to Vermont Hills United Methodist Church for volunteering their facility (6053 SW 55thDrive (Fireside Room – down behind the church) to host meetings and various events we offer. ** NET is based on volunteers only. The Portland Bureau of Emergency Management (PBEM) organization within the City of Portland coordinates the NET program, however NET volunteers are not employed by the City of Portland. NET is an alias for the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) funded by Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA). As defined by FEMA within Emergency Mgmt. Institute training IS-100, preparedness is “actions taken to plan, equip, train, and exercise to build and sustain the capabilities necessary to prevent, protect against, mitigate the effects of, respond to, and recover from those threats that pose the greatest risk. Within NIM, preparedness focuses on the following elements: planning, procedures and protocols; training and exercises; personnel qualifications, licensure, and certification; and equipment certification.”
